TW28 - Frames extending into box Keel

Post by Rokhal »

Hi Folks, I am finally at the stage of installing the internal framing/bulkheads on my TW28 and I need a little guidance / clarification.

The plans seem ambiguous when it comes to the frames B - G extending all the way to the bottom of the keel. The side view in sheet #D262/3 show them all extending or having a separate bulkhead in line with the station going all the way down, in fact, it shows double thicknesses on the keel portion.

The side view in sheet E262/4 shows only the prop shaft tube forward bulkhead behind frame F going all the way to the bottom of the keel.

The nesting sheet #B262/2 does not show these frames/bulkheads.

Given that the layup on the box keel is over one inch thick and even thicker in the top and bottom corners where the tape forms the equivalent of an I beam, is it even necessary that there are bulkheads at every station that intersects with the box keel?

What are you folks building a TW28 doing in regard to this and are you doubling the thickness of the bulkheads that are extending to the bottom of the box keel?

Thanks,

Robert

I don’t have the plans and not a TW28 builder. Bulkheads are transverse members and are not really providing the same structural support ss a box keel.

Bulkheads can be opened or holed within rules if you need the space for something.

Maybe someone can email Rick L and see if he’d comment.

If you go back into Rick's youtube videos you can see how the frames lay out around the keel area. it looks like the frames all stop at a pair of stringers and between them in the keel are the necessary bulkheads needed to mount the prop shaft etc.

Start around ep 40, the next 5 or 6 videos show glimpses of this area.

All,

Appreciate the feedback, I will check out Rick's videos to get an idea of what he did.

Thanks,

Robert
