N7- Sealed and foam filled seats and weather do they mix?

Post by BradF »

The N7 I am building will be left out in the weather hopefully up-side down, the question I have is will the fore and aft seats that are sealed and filled with flotation foam have a problem with water build-up due to condensation or should I leave an open hole in each of the seats or even a bung hole ( each of which solution adds its own problems)so that any water build-up can be drained off from time to time?
I live in Houston and our weather changes dramaticly during the course of a year, will these temperature changes in an area sealed during summer have any major negative effects during winter or does the flotation foam also serve to insulate the cavity somewhat?
I appreciate any assistance in this matter and the forums have been most helpfull in learning to build a boat as this is the first question i have had so far that I havent been a able to find a suitable answer for already posted in the forums somewhere :)

If you enclose the seats and fill with foam with relatively low humidity during the build then the moisture content within the seat should be extremely low. Thats if you make the seats air/water tight.

In other words if there is no water vapor or water with in the seat then there will be no vapor to condense.

Get it ?

As long as the comparment interiorer is coated with 2 coats of epoxy and you completely fill the space with foam, you will not have any problems.
