how much paint/primer for the D4?
I´m almost ready to paint my D4 (standard rowing design). I can´t seem to find much information on its square footage, and I don´t know if my estimates are accurate.

So far, I have one quart of S3 primer, and two quarts of paint (white and gray). Will I need more primer? I´m assuming two quarts of paint will be enough for all the required coats - yes???

Thanks,

Andrew
Apply the primer in three thin coats and use water and alcohol to thin the primmer as instructed. Use a roller and go thin. You should get it done with just a quart. You´ll know after the first primmer coat if you´ll make it. The entire ouside and top deck of the C19 appears it will take slightly less than a gallon of primmer for three coats. Two coats down, 1 to go. Then we get COLORS! But only after more sanding -

Jim

[ This message was edited by: JimW on 07-03-2003 07:13 ]

I´ll be rolling and brushing. I´ve already spent more than I´d planned on the boat, so a sprayer is definitely out, and I´d prefer not to have to buy more primer or paint. At $35.00/quart, the paint job may end up costing as much as a fourth the cost!

Mainly, I want to know whether I´ll need more so I can order it if it will be absolutely necessary (since it takes 10 days for another order to arrive...I´m ready to go fishing!!!)

Spraying uses less than rolling???? Maybe in an electrostatic spray booth? I used to spray AC vents (1500 each day). Only thing we saved was time. Paint was everywhere. Smart guy with a roller can save a lot of paint. I´ve got two coats of primer on the sides, transom and deck of the C19 (Huge boat) and have used five 8 fluid oz. cups (1.25 quarts) of primer (plus activator and water and alcohol to thin). Where is all my waste? Not on the floor, not in the air, where? What am I missing?
Jim

Just think, if you´d only spray, the inside of your nose and lungs could look like the outside of everything in the AC Vent shop!

Jeff
