OB15
OB15
Greetings all. I, like many, am interested in the OB15; no plans bought yet but I LOVE the integrated chine look that it has. I mostly lake fish but live in the Puget Sound where bay hops often calls one. I was wondering.... (1) how does the OB15 handle a long shaft Yamaha 25 hp moter (stability wise on the turns) and (2) would I be a crazy if I were to raise the side panels to a full 24 inch hight? Thanks in advance for any input. -Sliver

Well, I cant speak from the stand point of a 25 perhaps one of the other builders with one can say. However, at full out I have had to yank my wheel in order to catch something that flew out of my ob and well at 30mph it doesn't mind turning on a dime. Make sure others in the boat know when your going to make a real tug on the wheel. I would guess built light a 25 will give you about 22 to 26mph maybe.
I would build it to the plans before making the sides higher. I have had mine in seas I wouldn't care to disclose here and it did well. Lets just say I didn't need to wash the boat or myself when I got home. I wouldn't make the sides any taller. DaveF has the slickest chine of us all I think.

I'll be puttin on a long shaft remote yamaha 25 2 cycle oil injection (When it finally ships) for my ob15. I'm building with with a small cntr console. I'm hoping for 25 top end...anything over 20 will be great. I'm just about to start priming the hull...got a ways to go for I can make any preformance reports.
It looks like its gonna be pretty seaworthy as it is, but I think if you wanted to, you could add a really tall "first rubrail" layer with a good overlap glued on the outside of the sheer edge, maybe 6-7 inches tall, and put your true rubrail on the sheer edge of that, but that's a pretty big mod.
I'd build it with the normal sides, and you can always mod it if you need to later on by cutting off the rubrail and adding higher side panels with a rubrail on those as described above.
If you're lookin for a picture showing what im talking about, checkout fishingdan's gallery..that's not an OB15, but its fairly similar.

Thanks for the comment Scott.
The OB15 is a very study boat (at least the way mine was built). I have had it in some slightly heavy seas and it was ok going slow. 1-2 footers is no problem. Just be careful with a following sea. The boat is pretty light and if you have any spped, it likes to wander around a bit. A 25hp should be no problem at 20 mph.
