It took awhile but finally got my yellow banana boat (Day-OH) in the water. Photos available go to Flickr.com and search for "Sandy Claws".
Just wanted to thank the folks in this forum for all their help. If I can help anyone, don't hesitate to ask! Thanks again!
Thanks for the complement! I am very satisfied with the performance. I had an aluminum bassboat with a 35hp, and this boat is quicker with a 30hp 2stroke Merc. Was going to check the speed with my GPS last time but, I forgot it. Next time. I was out when it was windy and pretty choppy(not too many other boats out) and I don't think I would want to spend too much time at full throttle. It got a little bumpy and the motor cavitated a few times, but I just dropped the motor slightly and it quit. If the water wasn't choppy I would suspect I wouldn't have that problem. I am going to install a SE Sport Hydrofoil to help keep water around the prop anyway. I am still waiting on my depth finder and gps bracket. Meanwhile I am building a wooden platform that mounts on the aft thwart (instead of the tubular detailed in the plans) and holds a seat pedestal plate, and also can be removed and placed behind the thwart and over the tunnel to act like a deck extension. I don't think I'm coordinated enough to stand on a small poling platform! I don't want to be able to say:" Yes, as a matter of fact, I did just fall off the banana boat!". As time goes on I will update the Flickr site.
thanks for the quick answer....glad to hear that the 30hp mercury moves it well. I just ordered a 60hp yamaha for mine. Still need to get a trailer. I see that you are from inverness, I am in crystal river and Ken owens is from dunellon. That trailer looks just right for the boat. Where did you get it made? will be hard to miss the banana boat on the flats.
Cat-a-tonic- The trailer is made by B&S in Ocala. It is aluminum with torsion bar suspension. The company is very accomodating. They came and picked up my boat, brought it back to their factory, and built the trailer to fit the boat. They used high quality parts throughout. It should last forever! I am very pleased. They also built the trailer for the boat that was featured in the Florida Sportsman.
Steve- Thanks for the kind words. Where do you fish? maybe we can hook up(pun) when I get all the equipment installed.
Now that you're splashed, don't forget to check the forums once a week. She looks good. I may yet go with the mercer green. I thought it would be darker than that, but it looks great on your boat, and I did not want too dark a green for my rubrails.
Have you got on the water pictures ready for flickr yet?
