1/4" or 3/8" strips of plywood of design width and thickness per plans laminated on with epoxy glue and clamped with "C", spring, or PVC pipe clamps.

Home Depot has what I think they call a doorstop molding. I epoxeyed and clamped one on each side then another on top of the first. Nice rail, bends easily saves time ripping stock. I built the FL11 and canoe; used a single lamination on the canoe.

It´s all a matter of what you want for a look and need for strength etc.

I used what is called an outside corner moulding for my rubrail. This way the side of the hull got stiffened substantially. Was a bit tricky clamping it on, but looks OK.

Can send pics off line if you want. My camera yields 300K *,jpg files too big for this site.

Alex

I used lengths of 1 by 3" spruce, I think, or maybe cypress, I can´t remember, from Home Depot. I scarfed them to length. There wasn´t much curve to the FL14, so they bent ok with some encouragement. Also, about 15 clamps per side! I made the spaced inner, ones of the same thing, and also an innermost long solid gunn´l of the same thing. This gave my boat the appearance of having ribs, stiffened up the gunn´ls, and gave me a big block area to mount the oarlocks. Plus I can tie lines through the "holes" in the gunn´l. Also, they add extra longitudinal strength to the seat frames, which come all the way up.

The picture shows my rubrail with masking tape on it after painting.
