I also forgot to say I made the seats 2-3" higher so there is a little more frame height also. I know a bigger outboard isn´t supposed to make it any faster but I am usually loaded with gear and 2 other passengers. I have a 6hp now and where I fish the limit is 9.9hp is there a reason an outboard that size wouldn´t work is it to heavy? I made the transom extra durable it´s two sheets 3/8 laminated and the fillits on the whole boat I think I made way to big after looking at some other boats. Pluss add the corner triangles I can pick up the boat using them as a handle. What do you all think?

Kinzua Dam...I went there several times when I lived in western PA...seen black bears there in the Allegheny National Forest...and caught walleye and bass in the lake...found some good fishing in the tailrace too...you´re lucky--that´s a beautiful place. Enjoy your fishing boat.

What did you wake your rub rails out of and did you scarf them from smaller pieces?

I used oak on the free canoe. Very stiff, but somewhat hard to bend. On my FS14 I have made them out of scarfed sycamore. Much more flexible, but maybe too soft? I made them out of a 10 foot piece and an 8 foot piece scarfed and plan on putting the joint toward the back.

plan on putting one on the outside and two on the inside with the innermost one cut into blocks with spaces in between. Kind of like the cover of Wooden Boat magazine this month. That will give me some room for oarlocks and whatever.

the rub rail is made from 1x2" pine. I routered the corners and ran the pieces through a planer so that about a 1/4" was left at one end. If you looked at a cross section it would look like an L with a short bottom. I used this lip to overlap the top of the plywood so that when the inside and outside rails met they covered up the plywood top. I stained the pieces before gluing and coated with epoxy after. I´ll have more pics comming which will show aclose up of the rub rail, the rope rubrail I plan to make for the bow, and the boat fully riged.
