XF 20 - installing a tower

Post by Chris Sopotnick »

Has anyone installed a tower on the xf 20? I know this adds weight, but with the stability of the 8' beam I would imagine a tower would be an option on this boat. I am currently flipping my boat and getting ready to put the sole down, so before I do I wanted to beef up some areas under the sole that would eventually be tie ins for tower supports.

If anyone has done this - let me know the results, and how you decided to brace for the tower supports.

Search for 'Stickystuff' XF-20 build. The one Ken is currently working on has plans for a tower of some sorts if I remember correctly.

Take care,
Tim

Thanks for the heads up - the web site had exactly what I was interested in. I will try to contact some fo those boat owners to see how the boat performs with the tower.

If anyone has any ideas why the towers are placed on the rear deck vs. being centered in the boat. I am looking to place a livewell under the rear deck, and was wondering about the weight distribution with adding the tower in the rear as well. Also, how much bracing/support is required under the sole.

Yes, Ken is working on a small tower. There is nothing complicated to it: generous backing plates and see our HowTo file about consoles, it show several ways to bolt them down etc.
In the back, you can pole from a small tower.

Argh.,. I would get cramps if I had to spend more than 15 min in that trap.
Not to mention heat stroke from the sun and more likely a broken leg if I had to get down in a hurry for a fish on or whatever.

Just invite a really tall friend and use him for yur look out.

Well, I wouldn,t call it a small tower, How aout 6 1/2 ft. tall with a hydraulic air powered consol that raises to approx. 3 to 4 ft. high. It will lower back to floor level for towing. Neat setup.

A little saw dust, a little glue, and a lot of love, and she will float.
