Yoda,

A brand new 90hp Yamaha 2 stroke goes for 5K and change right now.

Jim,

I did notice the cyl. count on the different motors. I wonder if that will affect torque?

Jerry,

I didn't realize that OMC made anything other then direct fuel inject at the present time.... The rude is still quite heavy.

Thanks for all the input!!...

Will there be a problem when they start adding ETOH to the fuel?......

I have looked into weights of all the motors you listed. By
far price and weight goes to the Yammahopper. I know
several people in my fishing club who run the new 2
strokes. The fuel and oil consumption makes those motors
rank high with 4 strokes. Only major diff is the charging
system. Now, we do have one member who runs a
Nissan and loves it.

For the price and weight you will see a Yamaha on my
boat when I repower.

dborecky,

I'm one of the guys that will be running a 115hp on a PH18. The boat is currently in the 14 days of letting the paint dry before launch, so I don't have performance numbers to share.

I too noticed that the 90hp Yamaha was only 261 lbs. For financial reasons, I couldn't buy a new one and I couldn't find a used one in the NorthEast.

I ran across a Mariner 115 on a junk boat. It looked good, ran well and lists at 325 lbs (low for 115s) so I bought it along with the boat and trailer.

If Jacques and Shine say a 90hp is plenty for the PH18 then believe them and get the good deal.

Steve

Seve, Scott,

Thanks for the replys.

I was looking through the plans last night and reading alot. Although in theory it looks easy, I have my doubts. There are three ways to set it up to build. I will have to look into each and decide. I also need to talk to Shine about the pre cut wood and complete epoxy/fiberglass kits.

I'm throwing the cart before the horse or something like that. :D

I have seen some really low prices for engines at this time and I know that a transition will be taking place to phase out these "cheaper" engines. The newer ones are heavier and more expensive. I figured seeing an engine sitting there will inspire me to continue to work on the boat.....

I need to "shovel out" the garage and then get all supplies needed to start.
