Make sure you wear a face shield when using the thin discs. They cut really great but if they grip and twist, they can shatter.

May never happen to you, but you can't be too carefull with your eyes and face.

yes it can happen. this has happened to me while cutting off trailer u bolts that were rusted on. the disk shattered and flew of with quite a bit of force. thank god for the shield!

i have also used the flap discs and the can take down lots of material quickly. but 3 inches thick s a lot of material to grind down.

i was dealing with someting similar in my current project. thick gelcoat type of putty in the top edgde of the transom where the cut out for the motor goes up and back across to sides of the boat. i chipped it away and refilled it with wood coated epoxy and filled any gaps with some home made putty consisting of chopped fiberglass strands, milled fibers and silica. shaped it and fiberglassed it. the only reason i messed with it was because of the stress cracks that were in that area. once i got into i knew i had to just take it all down and start from scratch.

After long hours of grinding I found that you must always wear a face guard and use any means necessary to prevent infiltration of unwanted debris into your duct taped tyvek suit.

Shine had suggested an air chisel, and when combined with 16 grit disks you cant lose. You Must Take Your Time and that takes time.
Thank's

Andy
