Motor? for my FS-18

One of the main reasons for by FS-18 build is to fish no motor zones in Everglades National Park. In these areas you are not allowed to have a motor mounted on the boat. My question is, can a four stroke engine be layed down on it's side?? or do I need to go with a two stroke.

You better check the regulations very closely. From my understanding, in the areas marked NMZ's in the park, especially around Flamingo, you can't have a motor in the boat at all. That includes a trolling motor.

I already checked, the literature put out by the park says "Only boats with motor removed from transom allowed in these waters"

If you are asking if you can lay a 4-stoke on the side for transport with out draining the crankcase of oil. the answers is yes (at least for my 2003 15 hp electric start nissan) must be laid on side with with tiller handle. I had this question when I bought it read through the manual found answer found answer drove it home about 100 miles on it's side set it up in a barrel of water checked oil no loss started without a puff of smoke or anything weird so it transports fine on its side. other make may not be same though.

The manual for my Yamaha 2 stroke 15hp is split with the four stroke model. It says to transport it tiller side down. Sounds like it will be fine as long as you set it down on the correct side.

My bad, I had another No Motor Zone area confused with Flamingo's. I think all the portable 4 strokes have a designated side that you can use to lay the motor down on for transport.

That's a load to be manhandling on and off a boat out in the middle of the ocean.

An FS18 is not designed to cruise in the middle of the ocean.
