Was going to ask this question because I'm currently reading Ruel's book The New cold molded boat building.

Just to re cap - if a vessel is built 'cold molded' or classic 'wooden boat' style similar to these models:

then XYNOLE cloth could be used because it provides abrasion resistance, and that model relies on the wooden structural parts for strength
However, if a vessel is built with stitch and glue plywood such as the bateau models or this model: http://www.dhylanboats.com/design/plans ... rsh_plans/
then the vessel NEEDS the strength from FIBERGLASS cloth
