Re: Transom separated from plywood

Thanks for your comments!

I saw you said all wood needs to be pre coated with expoxy before filleting. Being a rookie, i did not do that so all the joints/seams of the hull panels are filleted together but not pre-coated. The ONLY area i have seen teh separate was that one spot on the transom from my post. I have gone around the seams/joints and banged them to see if anything else would come loose but everything seems good. Is there anything else you recommend me doing before i start laying down the glass?

The only reason i ask all of this is i saw some comments of "needing to start over" because the wood wasn't pre-coated prior to filleting. I am hoping my fillet work to glue the seams/joints together would be sufficient still or do you think i should be seriously concerned? Everything seems solid so far. Basically just don't want to start the entire project over because the fillet wasn't pre-coated if possible. Thank you again!!!

Basically, try to flex all seams with endgrain to fail. The transom, you also should have precoated before joining. Just stress test everything to your satisfaction. Push on it all and make sure it doesn’t crack. If it does, take an oscillating tool and cut out the crap and precoat and reattach.

Ok will do, thank you!

Any recs on ways to stress test other than just banging with a soft hammer or bend the panels a good bit back and forth?

And regarding transom, I actually did pre—coat it before I glued the three pieces together (not sure if that is what you’re referring to or not).

I wouldn’t use a hammer much. Just press hard by hand or with a 2x4.
