One more picture of some little halibut with Capeman

Raised the motor up three holes and gave it a try today. Picked up another 5 mph and 500 rpm. Still too low so I am going to need to do a little transom work this winter.

Unrelated to the Sintes, on the Kenai river fishing for Pinks, the value of a 1" spray rail on an OD18 was proven to me. Trying to decide when and how to install on mine.

How high did you get the motor without modifying the transom? Before you go crazy on getting it higher you might put a set of fins on the lower unit and see what it does to the porpoising.

Shared some Coho with the neighbors on Wednesday. Don't think those Crackers have ever seen fish like that! While I'm a huge supporter of farmed fish, they can't compete with those fat Silvers beyond cost and availability.

Wind was blowing and we had a pretty good chop at the river mouth. Everyone was taking a little more cool water than was fun. I was trying to ease my way and not drench us when Craig said speed up and get on top of this. Once I did as directed the splash rails did their thing and no more water in the face. Anyone building a dory really needs to put good splash rails on it.

For years the salmon industry has been shooting themselves in the foot. They send the good stuff overseas and then try to dump the trash on Americans who did not know better. Canned pinks are best fed to the pets. I have seen fish called "Silver-Brights" in stores down south. After looking close at them they were Chum salmon. Chum's are also called "dog salmon" and for a reason. The natives have always caught and dried them to feed to their dogs in the winter. It is a shame as folks try salmon, don't like it (I would not either) and will never try it again. All without ever having tried the good stuff.

There has been some discussion of porpoising so here is the story.
When Capeman and I took it out for a rat run she would porpoise bad anything over 30. I tried moving my 240 lbs to the bow and it dang near tossed me out Engine was clearly buried and would only reach 4300 rpm.
I raised the motor all I could, 4 holes, and tried it again. This time the av plate was still buried but was able to reach 4800 rpm and 35 before the porpoising got out of hand. So now I have taken the Bob's jack plate off of my dory and put it on the sintes. With the jack plate I will be able to raise it more than enough. I think I will start way too high and work my way down as needed.
I knew from the start when I built the bracket it might be a problem and was willing to take the risk. I have not and will not ask JM for his advise as he wants nothing to do with homemade brackets and for very good reasons. Early on I said if it does not work I would cut it off and make it a standard transom and that is what I will do if I can not get her lined out. A fin and trim tabs will be tried before I go the saw route
