You will need to put a permanent tank up there if you don't want to pull the portable tank out to fill it. No advice on how to install a fill and vent port on a portable tank below a deck like that. Go to Moeller's web page and see what they have that will fit, with the height of the deck allowing plenty of space between the top of the tank to allow the fill hose.

Looks like I’ll stick with the portable for now. Any suggestions/ideas or best practice for getting that (50lb when full) tank in and out of the bow without tearing/scuffing things up. This is where I was going to put it. Originally, in my mind, I thought I would just add a fill tube to the deck, strap the tank down and never remove it. Removing is going to be a pita!
Any other ideas/suggestions for placement?

The problem is that the fill cap is self venting so any vapor is going to be in that compartment. Is there a way to slide it in and out of a forward compartment that is not enclosed?
That boat deserves a "hidden" permanent tank with a properly installed fill and vent. Not trying to be harsh, but what you're doing isn't safe.

Thanks Cape man, no offense taken. I was asking because I simply don’t know what I don’t know. Now I can stop looking for a solution to using the tank provided with the engine to searching for a correct safe solution.
Thanks for all the help!
I can now use this tank for ballast

How big is your motor and what's your max range between fill ups? You might get away with a smaller tank.

The tank that came with the 25hp Suzuki is 6 gallons. Not sure of the range for that but people I’ve talked with who have the same motor say that it sips gas. Wonder if this 8 gallon aluminum will work?

If it will fit it looks good. You can go days with the 25hp and 8 gallons. Make sure there's enough height on the deck to get a fill and vent line in.

I am following “RB14 by Kyla” lead in routing grooves into the deck of the boat to simulate planking. To add some flair was going to add some maple edge banding for the center king plank and then applying 2 coats of clear epoxy over it. It is pre glued. WILL IT HOLD UP? Any other suggestions for its long term survival? Is it a bad idea?

I wouldn't do it.TommyD wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 11:27 am I am following “RB14 by Kyla” lead in routing grooves into the deck of the boat to simulate planking. Maple isn't a great wood for exterior use. You say it's pre glued, is that hot glue? Another problem if it is. How about using a thin strip of lumber, 1/4 inch range? Perhaps cypress? A contrasting color wood? Two coats of epoxy would be minimum, and don't forget to protect it from UV, as regular epoxy will break down in sunlight without protection.
