FS 14 LS Measurement Question
Re: FS 14 LS Measurement Question
I don't think the one on the right is woven, I think it's biax with way too much binder. I got one roll like this when I ordered my kit last year and Jeff replaced it no problem.

I think your right. Zooming way in you can see the glass running diagonally. Great catch.

Re: FS 14 LS Measurement Question
I would like to add the optional skeg to my build. The plans call for a 1x2 on edge. What would be the recommended wood type? Thanks!
Re: FS 14 LS Measurement Question
Southern yellow pine is great if you can find it. If not then cypress grown there in Florida would work fine. Just cover anything you use with biax fiberglass. Get a wide enough piece and you can use it for your splash rails.

Re: FS 14 LS Measurement Question
Thanks TomW1. What do builders usually use on their decks? Do they just prime the wood and then paint and apply non-skid or do they apply fiberglass cloth with fairing compound before prime and paint? Thank You!
Re: FS 14 LS Measurement Question
You can go either way with the deck. If you are looking to add a little more protection to your deck you might want to consider adding a layer of 10oz. woven cloth, fair, prime, and paint with non-skid. If you are ok without the fiberglass then seal the wood with epoxy, prime, and paint with non-skid.George Costanza wrote: ↑Wed Sep 19, 2018 9:23 am Thanks TomW1. Thanks Reid! I noticed on your FS18 you did not use glass on the deck and it look great.
Re: FS 14 LS Measurement Question
George a lot of the guys prefer to add a light coat of biax to there decks to protect them, just 6oz is plenty. Things do get dropped on them and a little protection now saves work later.

Re: FS 14 LS Measurement Question
I used 6oz. woven on the decks and cockpit floors on my 3 builds. 2+ years of hard use on the FS18 and no problems. Mike
