How would one go about taping the cap if the tape does not like sharp angles?
3/8" radius on the wood edges cut with a carbide tipped radius bit in a router. 12 ounce biaxial tape will easily wrap over a 3/8" radius cut on the edge of a boat part.

Is this an argument for preglassing the entire clamping board or more an argument against fir.
Good luck!
More of a caution against cutting corners.
If I had taken an extra hour to wrap the transom top with tape, I wouldn't be typing this right now.
Fuzz, cvincent, capeman...thanks for your advice and comments.
I'll post as I make the repairs. It will be good as new very soon.

I also think if the clamping board was Meranti and not marine fir you mite have got away with it.
I personally am not real impressed with marine grade fir plywood .

You can get away with a tighter radius; say 1/4” with peelply; just so you know. Best way is to run the pp past the work to a dry spot and tape it some; if possible. Then use hands to pull the pp tight.
My boat build is here -------->

I have a newfound respect for you rebuild guys.
I have been grinding and sanding around the transom area for two weeks. It's dirty work. I got the transom back in tonight. It will be better than new in a few days...

When you retire you will have so much free time you will want to buy a big one to rebuild :D
Glad to hear it is coming along. That is one fine boat :!:

The Pursuit will eventually need to be hauled out and rebuilt if I don't get rid of it.
Ideally, I would like to spend the winters here and the summers traveling or in AK.
I've thought of this a lot, more thought required.

Got a plan for you. This summer decide what is the best boat for you in Alaska and then build it down there and haul it up when you retire. Heck you will need a truck, boat and trailer here any way :D
I am pretty well convinced summers here and winters down south would be great way to go
