Spokaloo, thanks for the comment. I had hoped to do it this weekend but it's just cold and ugly. I don't want to go that badly. Can't find anyone interested in joining me, either. One of these days.

Jeff, you are always welcome. A buddy and I are trying to work out a trip to Venice to see if there are any red fish left. We are looking into renting a nice cabin just so the SWMBO's will be interested! Hope to see you in the future.

Daniel Huckleberry wrote:I also decided to try it without a jack plate. I am about 1" below the bottom with the motor clamped on the transom. It there is too much cavitation I will have to notch the transom where the motor sits. My splashwell bottom is all the way down against the middle stringer so I won't have any worries there. I figure I have to start somewhere. Knew this from the start of the build so I will try to approach it with an open mind   .
Have you had any cavitation so far?

Remenber that I have only used the boat once. On that one 3-hr trip I had no issues. The only cavitation was during a hard over turn at much greater than planing speed. I think that is typical of most boats. I will post more info after it becomes available. That means it will have to warmer and sunnier! 8)

Aw man - does this mean that you didn't rush out and do the skiing test for me this weekend? :P

No skiing :( I think we confused either Jacques or myself with the posts up in the questions section about this subject.

It was cold, windy and ugly Saturday. Much warmer Sunday but so wet you felt like it was raining and the bottom was ready to fall out all day. It did last night! Stormed like crazy all night long. Maybe I can get it in again this week.

I was trying to avoid hijacking your thread, but perhaps its best to keep the TX-18 questions here for now.

No problems posting it here, especially if it's directed at me. If you have a construction or plan question, I would put it up top just to make it easy to find for others in the future. Also, JM or Shine will be more likely to give you the help you might need if you post up there.

So, when are you going to get started? :o

I think I'm going to buy plans this week. I would love to start now, but have a few "must finish" projects to complete before Christmas, and then some other projects that my wife might forgive me for delaying. My son is in Iraq now, will return stateside around end of February and finish his 4 years in the USMC next October. So my my target is to go fishing with him in about 11 months. Sounds like I need to get started now, doesn't it?

David welcome to the forum and congratulations on your sons service. Daniel did a great job on his boat and as the first will I'm sure be able to help you a lot. Jacque and Shine as the backbones behind Bateau are always there. Eleven months will come and go lickety split so good luck and have fun.
