putting the fuel tank vent on the sheer just under the rub rail has been the only problem I have had with my FS18.

When I go to Port Mansfield and take on some reasonable swells entering the harbor, the water forces its way into the vent and I have had water in my fuel 2 times. Bottom line, I know its a no-no to vent into the cockpit but I have considered changing mine.

The other solution is to pick your fishing days better....

Beware, fuel will vent out of the that vent when the tank is full and you are bouncing down the road racing to the coast at 80 on a hot day. the fuel will expand and you might get a mess in the boat. Keep some towels handy and fill only 3/4 full

Thanks for confirming that for me Hooter. The last thing I want is a tank full of water, I do have a fuel/water separator filter, that should take care of any condensation in the tank.

I don't have to worry about racing 80mph to the coast. That would just get me in trouble, the speed between here and the boat ramp is 45mph :D And its only about 3 miles so 80 would be a little reckless :D I will definitely keep the splash out in mind though.

I havent been able to touch it for the last five days and its killing me :help:. I would like to stop by and see her. I'm on that side of the bridge at least once a week.

Thanks for the info, I've already drilled the hole for mine just under the rub rail. :? But if I'm going to move it now would be the time. But I don't want water in the fuel as much as I don't want fuel inside the boat.
I might have to think of a way to accomplish both.

I like the fill caps with the built in vent, they are well protected from water. I don't want fuel venting into the cockpit, it's not safe and not legal. There are several styles available. This is what i use on my OD18

Larry, my fuel fill is not vented. It is just a stainless steel straight fill. Is there a better way of doing this that you could suggest? my fuel tank vents form the very top and it is a baffled tank. it will fairly rare that the tank is completely full, it is 15 gallons and that should take me a long long way. 80% of the time it will be about half full.

I just did, above with a picture and a link  That is the best solution I've found. I would vent it overboard and risk some water before I'd vent it to the cockpit and risk exploding. A good filter will get the little water that comes in. Put a loop in the vent line as high as you can get it. Even if the fitting has to be low, water can't intrude past the highest level of the hose, so run it uphill to the bottom of the gunwale, put a loot in it like a plumbers trap, and back down to the vent fitting. You won't have any water problems.

Not much doing this week. The weather has sucked all week until today. It has been gorgeous out all day but me and my 3 kids spent the day at the Science and Natural History Museum. We are homeschooling and I am the teacher. But it was somewhat boat related today. Our museum has a decent amount of shipwreck artifacts on display and we also have the replica Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria. These ships were built in Spain and sailed over here in 1992 to commemorate the 500th year of Columbus' "discovery" of the New World. Pretty interesting stuff. I think the Nina is the one we were able tour. Small ships for what they did, 70' or so with a crew of 27!

I went to the Bounty replica in Tampa in the mid '60s and it absolutely fascinated me at age 8. 8)

If works going to get in the way I'm glad the weather wasn't good for building. It would kill me to not be able to work on her if the weather was great. :help: Build on my friend!
