Re: SportCraft 232 Fishmaster 1990
Thanks so much for the build thread. I pm'd you about the white rigging hoses/lines. I didn't want to hijack. What was your layup/glass plan for the bait tank? Did you use a release agent or just destroy the can? Thanks. I am planning on building a Richard Woods Skoota 32D and want to do the cabin and cockpit portion and plan to build a livewell/bait tank, outsource the hulls. When you made the transom insert, can you generalize about the glass layup for it as well? And perhaps a critique of whether you'd change anything, use foam or plywood instead of all frp?

I really can't remember I've slept to much since then. The PVA I used is sold here. I ended up splitting the can down about 2 feet to get it out. Should have waxed the mold also which I did with the hard top and it popped right out of the mold. So I suggest wax 6 times then spray PVA 3 coats. I know we cut out two round layers of 1708 in the shape of the bottom then one 12 oz biax. Then cut out 2 layers 1708 in one solid piece and one 12 oz biax. Layed the first round 1708 upside down with biax down. Then while wet layed the first side piece of 1708 the same with the biax to the trash can and over lapped the bottom by a few inches and the top by a few inches to be trimmed later. The next bottom we layed the other direction creating a sandwich. Same with the sides but stagger the seams. The last layer was the 12 oz biax on the bottom and then the sides to leave a smoother finish inside.
If I build another bracket or transom they will be composite material. The Bracket I would use a mold similar to Daytrip's rebuild which would leave much less fairing later on. Over all I'm real happy with the end result but I spent allot of time fairing. The transom was one layer of thickened epoxy on the old shell then layer of thickened epoxy on the 3/4 ply and sandwich them. Once holding shape pull bolts quick to clean and start again with 1/2 inch ply then last layer of 3/4 all layed up the same. Once they setup well I sanded the entire surface again before three layers of 12 oz biax tabbing each over lapping each other by 2-3 inches. Finally wet out the plywood with a coat of epoxy and started laying up 3 layers of 1708 to close it in each new layer over lapping the last by 4 inches and over lapping the entire transom through the corners to the old glass . The last layer was 17 oz biax which covered the entire transom interior and over lapped again. This was my method and I'm no expert but there is allot of real good info on this forum which is where I dug into before I started my rebuild. Good luck with yours I look forward to seeing your boat porn.fallguy1000 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 27, 2017 10:37 pm When you made the transom insert, can you generalize about the glass layup for it as well? Its been awhile but lesson learned dont use Photo bucket.
We made a nice enclosure which was much needed after getting pounded in a few storms. And got the graphics done. Looks like Ill plug away slowly at adding the photos to the gallery.
