I was thinking of making a shroud like you describe for my C-17. Should quiet the noise from my 2-stroke nicely. I wasn't thinking of using it as a poling platform, but making the top flat and adding a toerail like in the picture shouldn't be too much of a problem to do, but it may not look quite right, depending on the boat. I was planning on matching the camber of the motorwell bulkhead and following the contour of the sheer line for my cover.cape man wrote:Had an idea while thinking about the plywood design...maybe not a good one...but what about a shroud large enough to stand on. Have seen more and more large offshore boats using them to cut back on the engine noise, and they simply hinge forward to get to the motor. Might look pretty weird on a small boat, but design would be awful simple. Like I said, maybe not a good one
I think that if it's kept low enough, that it should look nice. It's just been a thought rattling around my head up until now. Maybe I'll take some measurements later tonight. I need to make sure that there's enough clearance to tilt the engine all the way up.cape man wrote:That might look real nice on a C17. You will lose sight of your piss port, so will need a good overheat alarm (which you will easily hear since the sound from the engine will be muffled). Hmmm. Might build something quick out of cardboard and see what it looks like...
