Jacques,
What are the requirements if I wanted to make 2 boats a year and sell them?
Thanks,

For the design side, it's simple. A set of plans is a license to build one boat. If you want to build a second one from the same set, you'll have to pay for a second set of plans. We could give you a discount if you don't want a second printed copy but that isn't much in the whole cost picture.
From the legal point of view, it is a little more complicated.
If you consider your self to be an amateur who occasionally resell his boat, no problem but if you become a professional builders, there are other requirements.
You must satisfy some rules regarding positive upright buoyancy if the boat is less than 20', you must apply a capacity plate and a HIN number.
I do the calculations for a builder who commits to build 5 boats a year and pay the 5 building licenses upfront.
I can also help with production methods, some customization etc., fee to be negotiated or see below.
As a professional builder, Joel will put you on his list and give you a professional discount but that is only for real builders set up with a company, tax number and there are minimum purchase requirements.
A benefit of purchasing supplies from us is that I do some engineering work for free. That offsets some of the costs mentioned above.

Would 2 boats a year be considered a professional or amateur? I'm not looking to get rich by no means. I just thought about building a couple of boats a year at the most. However, I do want to do the right thing and want to make sure that you get what you are due.
Thanks

If you build boats for resale, you are a professional.Would 2 boats a year be considered a professional or amateur?

I have in mind 5 boats per year but I'm not certain. It probably depends on the sate and boat size.
