Here's another description of what happens during CC:
The metal ions produced by the anodic corrosion reaction readily hydrolyze giving off protons (acid) and forming corrosion products. The pH in a crevice can reach very acidic values, sometimes equivalent to pure acids.
I think I dropped Chemistry 101 if I remember correctly....for some reason I don't have much recollection of that period of my education.
So anyway all is know is that the bottom of my boat ate through and the best I can describe it is it looked like battery acid had eaten through the aluminum on the bottom of the boat. I had to replace the plating on the bottom. Its the boat on the left.
