Having concluded the GV13 is too small for my needs I’m now considering the OD16. It will be used inshore in generally calm waters (for 9 months of the year max significant wave 2 to 5 feet and wave period 4 to 5s).
I will be doing the standard build + following options: gunwales, small rack for 3 dive bottles console and sunshade similar to as shown on your photo of “evil dwarfâ€

Rae,
I have the OD16. Truthfully though, the only reasons NOT to build the OD18 are that you don't have the space for those extra feet, nor do you want to spend the money on the larger engine for it. Other than that, materials, etc. are just slightly more for the OD18, over the OD16.
You pretty much end up w/the OD18 with more bang for almost the same 'buck'!
Now, my OD16 has an older 40HP Johnson on it and gets a top speed of 28mph. It goes on plane around 12mph. I wouldn't really recommend going w/a smaller engine, as it would have to work too hard.
As to space: Two people is really comfortable...three are good..and four becomes ouright communism when it comes to space. If you plan on diving w/three people on board...you will have to organize your space well and stick to it.
Also, the OD16 because of it's rather high sides probably isn't exactly a great diving platform. You'd definetly have to install some sort of transom ladder to make getting back in possible.
It's a great boat..and I love it...so, good luck!

OD16 HP
RaeB,
OD 16 go with 40HP Mine is a bit underpowered at 25HP. Does well on a calm day with 2 people. Has some trouble in a strong current with three people. Other than that I love the boat.
