Re: Cape Man's Dory
So I'm going again Friday with two boats and four guys for a week. I ran into the iron guards for the gas pump the last trip and trashed the starboard fender on the trailer (don't ask). Took it as the sign to not only replace the fender but also the torsion axle. The axle itself and the spindles were fine but this was bothering me.
Filled the tank today and it took just over 10 gallons from the last trip.
Still lots of metal there, but bothered me.Filled the tank today and it took just over 10 gallons from the last trip.

Finger scaler to drop loose, wire brush to expose any cracks and (of no crack) a couple POR coats and it’s good as new.

If you get the same axle, maybe save the hub assemblies.

Re: Cape Man's Dory
I always carry a spare hub but never liked storing it in the truck or boat. Cut the spindle off one end of the old axle and a friend welded it to a piece of pipe and a backing plate. Painted it with some cheap Ace Hardware silver paint, mounted it to the horn on the trailer. Now I have a spare tire and hub ready to go! Cost me some venison...

Slick way of having what you need if you need it.
One thing I see that is much worse for you guys down south is the corrosion factor. All that heat sure makes things rust faster.
