Fir & Okume

Post by Ola »

Hi Jacques,

Last question today - it´s evening and time to go to sauna.
How about if I build OB17 so, that all the 6 mm plywood is Okume and others (9 and 12 mm) are fir plywood? I know it´s not the best solution, but some kind of a economical compromise.

Regards, Ola

Fir & Okume

That is perfect.
Nice marine Okume or Meranti for the hull, less expensive fir for all inside parts.
That way, if you ever run over some rocks and get a serious scratch through the hull or forget to coat a hole you drilled for the depth sounder, your boat will still survive because the outer skin is marine ply.
Have a nice sauna but here we are 6 hours earlier: still have to work until 5 PM!
