Re: SB 18 Build Started in Georgia

This is what I got from Dwyer late last year:

Part Description Quantity Item Total
DH 2140 - Step 2 $41.10
DH 252 - Spreader Bracket 2 $26.60
DH 2520 - Spreader - 5/8" OD x 24" Length Fits Bracket DH 252 2 $32.00
DH 921 - Eye Strap 2 $2.50
DH 359-1L - Sliding Gooseneck 1 $67.00
DH 6570 - End Cap 1 $14.00
DM-375 Mast Extrusion - Tube Length 29 ft. 10 in. based on stock length of 30'0" @ $21.50/ft. 1 $645.00
DM-5 Boom Extrusion - Tube Length 10 ft. 3 in. based on stock length of 13'0" @ $19.30/ft. 1 $250.90

Shipping to LA was also quote at about $350. The funny thing is shipping from LA to the Philippines cost only $150.

By the way, I just did a quick cut & paste from an e-mail so the formatting is off. The number before each amount is the quantity and the amount is the total for the item.

Hope it helps Greg.

Thanks Greg for the heads up on the spread length. It was really just a "get an idea" quote especially for the shipping costs which I always thought would be the deciding factor (I was wrong). Like you I'm still hoping some die hard racer will get a new mast and let me buy his old one.

I've been helping a friend build his CR13 so my SB18 is not getting much attention just now.

Cheers.

SNG I hate to say it but that sounds about right for a quality mast and boom with accessories. Remember it is supposed to last the life of the boat and take all the stresses of the sails and wave actions during your sailing days. Wait for your other quotes to come in and see but they should be within 2-300 of each other or I would question them. Metal strength quality of attachment points, etc.

It looks like you have a great idea on using the H18 and being able get on the water for a reasonable cost. Hope it works out for you and all goes well using them.

Hey SNG

I totally sympathize with you, I lost my job back in December after 9 years with the same company - am still looking for something new. I had to put all my SB18 plans on hold - have wood but can't afford epoxy!

If you can put the SB18 on hold, don't sell it !- there's always a light at the end of the tunnel.

Good luck in the job hunt
