I spent the morning over in the big shop cutting down some two by stock into 1/4" X 1-1/2" strips fourteen ft. long for my rub rails. It then occured to me that this is nothing more than lattice strips like you can get from any lumber yard for next to nothing.
Anyone tried lattice strips yet, and how'd it work for you?

Fazoo, don't see why they wouldn't work. 1. Don't get pressure treated, they won't bond well with the epoxy. 2. Cedar would be great. 3. Would want the straightest grain possible to keep them from twisting. when putting them on.

I used cedar for my OD18, It glued up fine , looks great.
The problem is the RUB part in rub-rail. I am thinking of what to cover them with when I am near a dock, which is often. Pilings and deck boards beat up the cedar badly.
I tried some pipe insulation which worked as a temp. bumper but did not stay long.
Just some thoughts.

Brent found this, seems reasonable and should hold up. Also 40' lengths. http://store.hamiltonmarine.com/browse.cfm/4,15101.html
