I have done 3/4 of my Boston Whaler project boat using the System 3 Primer and the sterling top coat.
GREAT FINISH so far.
Now for the hull and I'm running low on primer.
The existing hull is a 1970 Boston Whaler which has oxidized gel coat on it that structurally is in very good condition, however the hull has weed growth on it that has stained the hull to the point that I almost need to sand the stains off. Problem is the sanding will not leave the hull in a condition that can be compounded out.
Can the Sterling be applied directly to a good condition hull provided it has been sanded with the recommended 220-320 grit sandpaper WITHOUT using primer.

There are some areas when I painted the sides where I did go a little over in some places where there was no primer, only sanded gel coat and they seem to be fine. That Sterling seems to bond to anything realtively clean.
I just wanted to be cautious about doing the whole hull due to the abuse the hull takes versus the sides.
If you think it is OK, then I'll skip the primer, if it's questionable then I'll prime it to be sure.
Thanks
Chris
