FL 12 Rub Rail

Post by POPEYE THE SAILOR »

I am worried about glue seeping out from the clamped pieces of plywood during the Rub Rail installation. Is there a way to prevent this from occurring? Thanks.

That's funny - I was more worried when I didn't see any squeezing out that I hadn't used enough glue. :) Even where the glue squeezed out, the layer of glue between the layers in the rubrail is thick enough to see, so I'm not worried.

Don't worry! Spread lots of peanut-butter on the rails, use lots of clamps, don't clamp them tighter than you need to get the rail in place, and wipe up the excess with your gloved fingertip. I think I've only read of one rubrail delamination on this board, and I think that was due to an epoxy mixing mix-up.

Or just use a paper towel after you clamped the rubrail to the hull to wipe off excess epoxy. As BoH says: be worried when it doesn't squeeze out...
For me paper towels must have been the "tool" I have used most.
