Volvo Ocean Race Game WARNING, very addictive

Post by mechdave »

I know there are allot of sailors on this board as well as power boaters. This is a pretty cool game that doesn't require a lot of time all at once. Just setting your heading and checking the forecast takes a coupe minutes. I came in 30538th out of 90 some thousand on the second leg. Whoo Hoo! Volvo around the world race. You get a boat and it runs in real time. It will go for weeks.

If you add a boat once the race has started they put you in mid fleet. The race is on its way to Singapore now. You just jump in once in a while and reset the course depending on wind, current and sail angle then let it go.

If anyone jumps on, throw your boat name on here and we can track each other on that site. Something to do when it's too cold or wet to build.

Forgot to give my boat name: los mentirosos. ( the liars ) in spanish. It was a joke amongst friends about fishermen being less than honest about the size of the fish we catch.

Mech, I have to go to Cochin first apparently. It's the only red bouy on my map. I submitted it as a bug since it looks like I'm ending leg 2 instead of doing leg 3.

I have no idea what I am doing. The only sailing experience I have is a sunfish I sailed one day at Camp Seagull on the Neuse River 22 years ago.

Support says my best option is to create another boat. So I'll name that one WAYWARD FORTH II
and hope it's not too aptly named as well.

Edited for additional info:
I created the second boat and got the same problem so unless they fix it I'll just run my original boat into last place. I hear there's a "special" prize, probably lug nuts.

Reedited:
Support basically says I'm screwed till next leg. Don't think I'll bother though, I get the impression from reading their forum the game is very buggy and I got better things to do.

I tried playing today with my slow dial-up, just could not. Oh well CORANDELET is entered if it can ever play.

I am still trying to figure the game out  Red Alert Fl is ambling about like there are a bunch of drunken sailors onboard. One torrent of boats passed me so fast they blew the S3 from my boat  Hopefully I can figure out which way to point my boat soon :help: I think I am solidly in the running for the lugnut award....
