coverage question

Post by Fonda@kauai »

I saw in the how to's that a gallon of sterling will cover approx. 300 sq ft. Is that for 1 coat? 2? 3? My bottom is about 120 sq ft (maybe a little less) so I'm wondering how much I need to paint it with at least 3 coats. It's going over the new S3 yacht primer, which is light grey, if that makes a difference in coverage. I'll be using hatteras white. Mahalo, Joe

On my OD 18 I got 4 coats with less than 1/2 gallon of paint. Consider that 1/2 gallon of Sterling paint also requires 1/4 gallon of catalyst and 1/4 gallon of reducer, which nets 1 gallon of total product.

Thanks Larry, I hope mine comes out half as nice as yours :D You painted about 80 sq ft. yeah? Was it 4 coats out of necessity, like for coverage, or just for more betterness?

More for betterness. Two coats normally hides everything well with the lt. gray primer. I believe that is all Shine put on with the lite blue for his FS17 low sheer. Larry basically had the paint and just kept getting it on better and better.

Probably 100 square feet. 2 coats gives pretty good coverage but I kept getting sags and runs, so I'd sand it down and do it again, and again, and again :help: Finally figured out how to apply it. One thing about Sterling, even the runs are shiny 8)
