Received a couple picture from a builder in the keys of his finished SG15 scilly gig. Below are his comments...
I added a cap to make it look more finished 10oz cloth on the outside
just taped the seams inside built the oars 8 ft. laminated them out of
hand picked over dried clear fir it was light as balsa then cut them
down to 7.5 ft. They were a little heavy to hold up over a long trip.
the boat rows great floatation under the seats and in the transom
styrafoam glassed over with a finish cloth and epoxy. Bulkhead with
dry storage in bow with plastic deck plate. You can row it swamped I
tested it at midnight on my birthday. I have rowed it around Marathon
in five hrs. That is close to 17miles the way I go up the gulf thru
vaca cut around boot key thru the seven mile bridge and then back to
the boat yard. Built out of 1/4 A.C. fir plywood finished weight on
State inspected fish house scale 130 Lbs. bottom double layer 10 oz
cloth exterior 1 layer inside taped seams finished with awlgrip paint
38 hrs. start to finish.
