Micro balloons vs wood flour. When to use each. Advantages... etc.

Wood flour is for glue and structural filler. Micro balloons are for fairing and smoothing. If you want to make it strong and stick forever use wood flour, if you want to make it smooth and pretty use micro balloons.

OK then, if someone was wanting to conserve as much weight as possible, is there something other then wood flour that could be used? Or is it just not a significant amount to worry about.

Use the correct filler for each application.
Glue made with micro balloons may fail.
