Do tell...
I am very interested, if you are using HVLP, what settings you find best, in the spring of course. Teflon tape works wonders on those fitting threads to seal them well, though for painting, I've never found it to be totally necessary, and many accessory kits leave out the tape.
I am finishing painting a Caravelle with System Three mid to late summer, and I am always open to suggestions and experiences with this paint system, ie, humidity, temperature, Pressure used, heater, filter, gun manufacturer, compressor config, type of needle, thinning tried (thinning agent and percentage), you know, all the fun stuff.
This Caravelle is not going to be a mirror bottomed record setter, so I haven't done a two month fairing job by any means! My concern is only a very good, and very sealed, and very strong finish. As you break in the new toy, don't get carried away and paint the cat or any other such extreme experiments with color.
What did I get? A fresh copy of Dave Gerr's * The Essentials of Boat Strength *, Tristan Jones * Yarns *, The Miles Smeeton telling of the capsize of the Tsu Hang * Once is Enough *, a tie, which, since Jacques has shown such a * clean * spraying of S3 paints, I may wear the tie while spraying and see if it changes color
. (With a respirator of course).
I hope, in a few weeks, to finish some simple sailing models for the nephews, and then show them some Hornblower battle re-enactments.
Of course there were much non nautical doings, but listing them would be * off topic * ....
BTW, is this thing a sneeze ???
, especially when preceeded by ...
Hope your season is filled with all the right and enduring reasons for celebrating, gift giving/receiving, and thankfulness.
Oh Lord, Your sea is so big, and this boat is so small... amen.
sincerely,
ks

Santa brought Dad and new Ingersol Rand 16 inch in line sander, very nice. He Also put a 30 inch Redfish on my hook yesterday morning, as dad and I paddled our ricketty canoe around the Indian River. Man that was a big red. Caught him on 10 lb test, and a blue chug bug. Had to fight to keep him out of the mangroves. Dad steered us a little towards open water, and that fish took off. Dragged us about two hundred yards before he got tired. Dad and I looked at each other and laughed as neither one of us had thought to bring a camera. Probably fourteen pounds, and just the prettiest redfish you can imagine. Thanks Santa.

My wife built me a binder to keep all of my boat building stuff in. She downloaded clip art and printed it out on stickers to decorate the outside. The made dividers for the different type of boats. Then she went snooping, found all my posts, and things I was interested in and printed them out and put them in the binder.
I'm going to print out all of the study plans I've got for boats I'm interested in and put them in the binder. That will save me time when a new person comes over and I need to bore them with my new obsession.

Binders?
And once you start buying drafting paper and doodling modifications and new sheer and chine and bilge ideas... forget it. Its all over. You're lost. That is, if you have a day job. You'll never be seen again, forget about binders! Come out of the garage at least when your children graduate, and get married. And at least admit to having heard the names of your grandchildren once.
Well, if it gets that bad, you need a good slap! And perhaps a visit from 3 spirits tonight, and a chain rattling ghost of a now deceased boat building partner ???
Excuse the outburst. I got the flu for Christmas, and it lingers still, ringing ears and all. But I also got good things. The R/C simulator I got for the nephews was a hit. Crashed about 1,000 planes, and didn't cost a penny to repair. Finale? Got to show them how to land an F86 in 50 mph wind. Also showed 'em how to crash it while trying! They have a small RC plane they are afraid to crash without learning first (learning how to crash?).
I have no worries about the launch of my Caravelle next year and need no simulator first. But I am getting ready to get wet a few times. On the internet, how would one type the sound of a broach and the mast hitting the water? First I thought badoonk... but that is more like a heavy round stone hitting the water at slow speed, and I did not build my Caravelle quite that heavy.
maybe... wwooosshhhhh ppttss? Any Caravelle builders tip theirs in the drink yet?
Would a deceased boat builder ghost rattle chain... or anchor rode? Galvinized, vinyl coated? Not scarry enough with the vinyl coating?
Alright. I'm done now. It was the NyQuil talking.

I got some cash for my LB22 (Nina) hope chest. I also got a 150qt cooler from my brother-in-law. All he knew was I built a boat, and a marine cooler seemed just the right thing. I didn't have the heart to tell him it's length is almost equal to the beam of my GV13. I'll save that for the Nina too. In fact, I'll use it as my Nina hope chest and fill it with ones, fives and loose change.
Speaking of collecting and keeping plans, my wife got me a couple of plastic cases that have latch closures. They will accept file size papers and they're about 2.5-3" deep. The plans I have ordered from Jacques and from Glen-L fit perfectly. One holds my maybe plans (3 sets) and one holds my definately plans (2 sets plus print-outs, modification drawings, calculations, etc). They keep the dust off and the edges crisp.

KS8,
No way you're going to be able to overturn a Caravelle under normal operating conditions! OK, given the right circumstances, stupidity will accomplish anything, but that's another story...
I saw the heavy oak-on-frame Caravelles in the Brittany coastal waters and they really made an impression on me! Add Jacques expertise in the re-designed S&G-version and your Caravelle will be a stable as the Hibernia GBS!
