Marine plywood at discount prices.

Post by jacquesmm »

WorldPanel.com, a well known plywood supplier, has agreed to sell marine plywood to the bateau.com builders at a discounted price.
WorldPanel ships all over the US and Carribean. Often, their price shipping included, is lower than local prices.
See the new plywood pages at boatbuildercentral.com.
The discount is reflected in the prices and quotes for shipping are free.

Thank you sooooo much Jacques! It seems that the neverending plywood search is probably the biggest obstacle in building these boats. This is very helpful to me, and I´m sure it will be a huge benefit for lots of other builders as well.

Want to see how bad it can be in places? The local Lowes store in Billings ran a big advertisement last week, proclaiming that they now had AC Extertior Plywood! Wow! Fancy stuff for these parts. Previously, it was unavailabe in these parts. I´m so happy that I can order my wood, epoxy, glass and fillers at the same time. Very cool.

The links worked for me. I just put in for a shipping quote for a big old order ($1650!). This is just what I need to get going on Project Catboat.

Sean,

You can get your plywood cheaper from the west coast. I got my meranti from Edensaw Woods in Seattle--only 2 states away from you as opposed to having it shipped in from Florida. What I got wasn´t BS1088, it was BS6065, but plenty good for Jacque´s small boats. Good luck.

Doug

ps: keep pestering Jacques for a traditional catboat

It was something stupid I was doing. I was clicking on ordering information and then clicking on the little "select" buttons in the text trying to get to the order page. As soon as I clicked on the type of plywood, it worked. Its morning and my brain is semi-awake now.

Dyce,

I´m waiting on the shipping cost estimate from World Panel, and I am waiting for an estimate from Edensaw as well. It´s going to take me some time so get up the dough for such a big order, but I have a PK78 to build first, anyway.

(1/4" Okume and 3/8" marine fir, if you were wondering.)

Any chance of a table of representative shipping costs? Like maybe 6 to 9 cities scattered around the country just so we can get an idea of the order of magnitude without having to do the waiting for quotes dance?

Laszlo
Sorry but we could not show all the options on such a table: we use different freight companies in different areas and in the same area, different ones for commmercial or residential. Then there is the case of empty slots on grouped shipping that can save $ etc. etc.
I may, after a while, post some examples.

Here are two examples of shipping cost that I received this morning:
- 26 sheets to MT -> $ 170.00
- 10 sheets to GA -> $ 94.00

It will never go much below $ 70.00 but rarely exceed $ 200.00 even for a large shipment all the way across the US.
