V10 DInghy bottom panels
V10 DInghy bottom panels
I am trying to put the bottom panels on the V10 Dinghy and am having trouble. I looked at the tips at the bateau.com website and message board and still am having trouble, I can´t get the two bottom panels butted together and strap it down to the sides. I am trying to use water now to get the wood to bend a bit. Should I keep trying this?

Do a search on our old forum. The V10 has a nice hull shape but the plywood does not bend easily at the bow especially if you use fir.
There is no problem (or less of a problem) with Lauan or Okume.
Most users get it as close as possible with a few wire stitches, let is sit overnight and the enxt day, it usually accepts to take the proper shape.
Try not to use water or you will have to let it dry several days before applying epoxy.

I too had a little trouble getting the bottom panels to come together... mostly because i used really stiff (and old) fir plywood.

I soaked the wood in hot water to get it to bend. Then, like Jacques said, it had dry out a week before I could epoxy it. But it worked. I tried carefully and patiently with dry wood, but both times it cracked and I had to start over. Next boat, I´m dishin´ out the money for the good stuff!

You can see how it did it on my website. The results are worth the effort to get it right.

http://www.geocities.com/mattchew_39/as ... R>
Good luck and let me know if I can help!
Matt.
I am just stitching up an R13 and the bow has so far been the greatest challenge. What I did was locate the chine panels in approximate positions and loosly stich them to the shear panels and frames and transom. At this point the bow would need considerable bending so I drilled stitch holes about an inch apart and oposite each other on each panel. Loop a wire through all four holes and use a rod to twist from inside the boat. as the panel pull into place move forward and repeat the wire loop and tristing. I had to do this only twice and use the jigsaw for some minor trimming before I got a near perfect fit. Last thing last night is I epoxied this part of the bow. Tonight as I pick up wher I left off I thing the bow fit issue is behind me. Good Luck hope this helps.
