Okume Plywood

Post by Skydad »

Jacques or some other plywood expert: Out of curiosity, what is the difference between Okume Plywood to BS1088 standard and Okume Plywood to BS1088 standard with Lloyd´s approval? Is the Okume without the Lloyd´s approval suitable for building a boat like the OB19? Thanks.

The Lloyds approval is just an extra stamp. All BS1088 is well above our minimum specs but the Lloyds approval is great for those who will insure their boats and for resale value.
The plywood sold by Eric is a slightly superior grade and may very well be Lloyds approved.

Usually Lloyd´s also charges more for actually approving the plywood - so having that little stamp costs a bit more!

BS1088 plywood is still very good, stamped or not.

Evan Gatehouse
