Improved turning performance of Phantom

Post by Doug »

I finally got the tracking fins installed I have been working on and the difference in turning capability of the Phantom is amazing. It slips sideways much less when taking turns at speed.

Here are the fins before painting

The fins are 1 1/4 " tall, 3/16" thick and 4' long. The are installed parallel to the skeg about 17" from it. The are tapered on both ends and pretty thin so don't have much drag and are short enough so they don't cause wave slap since they are never out of the water. The oyster beds are going to be a little tough on them but we'll see.

Doug,

They look great... As far as the oyster bars go, I would rather damage a skeg than rip the bottom up.

Do the skegs help with slow speed handling? That is what I have the most trouble with.

I didn't really try much low speed manuvering since I was dodging the rain but I don't think it will help as much.
Are you going to be at TX get together next Saturday?

Doug,

The rain this weekend has really messed up the schedule around our house. All of the little league games were rained out and I'm waiting to find out when they will be rescheduled. I'm hoping for a night this week. As soon as I know, I will let you know.
