transom repair

Post by boatman1969 »

I have a Grady White 19' tourniment with some rot in the transome there are cracks in the transome at the corners which I understand is not a good sign at all. I drilled holes in varous places and it seems that the rot is confined to areas were water got under a seam in the metal cap at the top. I checked the wood around one of the bolt holes and it was solid, the transom has no flex when the motor is moved up and down you can stand on the foot with the same result. I drilled three 3/8 holes on each side of the motor down about 8" then jamed a 12" 1/4" rod down till I hit solid wood. After that I poured epoxy resin untill it came out the holes(48oz) I now plan on glassing over the top of the transome with glass and covering the cracks and all. Has anyone tried this I am hoping that this will get met through the summer and then I plan on geting into it to do a more extensive repair this fall. Any thoughts?
