Instant download

Post by jacquesmm »

People have asked questions about the downloadable plans.
(This applies to my downloadable designs too).

How it works:

"Instant Digital Downloads" are plan files, drawings and text, that you can view and print. They are available immediately after your online payment is processed. Our online shopping cart will redirect you to a download link. You will also receive an email with a link to a backup download location.

How to use the downloaded files:
Once downloaded on your computer, you can open the file, look at your plans and print them.
You can zoom in on details, print all or parts of each drawing.
If you want to print large size plans like, for example A1 or D size (24 by 36” approximately), you can bring your files to a local blueprint shop. Some accept files by email and deliver them.
In the US, you can upload your files to Staples, Kinko, Fedex and UPS stores (for example) and order printed copies in the size of your choice. Those copies can be mailed to you.

File types
Depending on the plans, the files will be PDF or image files like GIF, TIFF etc.
The most recent plans or updated ones use the PDF format.
We are converting all the files to PDF, if you have a TIFF version and want PDF, email please.

Compatibility
All the files in our "Instant Digital Downloads" are compatible with all versions of Windows or Linux. 99% of computers are set up to open the files directly. If necessary, software to open those files is available for free: Adobe Acrobat, Paint.net, Gimp etc.
Test the system by downloading free sample files from bateau.com. Those files are available in the free plans section.
If you need help, visit our forum at bateau2.com.

Full size patterns
Some plans (not all) include full size patterns. Those are either in PDF or DXF format. They can be printed to full size as described above: blueprint shop, Staples, Kinko etc.

Printed version mailed to you
If you can't have your files printed locally, printed plans are still available even if you don't see them listed. Bateau.com or the designer will print them for you.
Printed plans cost more: printing cost, packaging and shipping.
For the MGYD plans (Jacques Mertens designs), that option will be listed with the price.
We ship printed plans within one business day.
For the Woods designs, email please. The cost of the printed plans varies with the number of sheets and size. Some plans cost 50% more printed. Many plan sets are blue print style copies of hand drafted drawings. Those are printed in the UK and shipped from there. Expect to wait about 4 weeks for delivery.
