I'm refurbishing the above boat and will be fitting a Yamaha Saltwater Series V130 XL shaft. Original transom was to suit Long shaft 25mm thick as boat had an 85hp Chrysler fitted. Underfloor S/S fuel tank as in picture is to be fitted and all windows in cabin to be removed and fibreglass panels to be fitted in place. My question is primarily in regards to calculating quantities of material required. I intend on using CD exterior grade plywood for all structural repairs but unsure of which 'glass matting to use on transom i.e. density and number of layers, tabbing in etc. Also i'm not sure how to calculate the amount of resin i will require for the project.I have attached pictures and once the thread is going i'll be able to answer any specific questions hopefully as the project evolves. Once all structural work is complete i wish to flowcote the inner hull and sole, again not sure how much i'll need to order to do this.
Thank you in advance, Graeme
I have tried several attempts to upload pictures however i am being met with numerous failures on this front. Pictures are in my Gallery however i will understand if chasing them down is not an option. I'd be annoyed at this myself. Fact of the matter is that the phpBB interface will not allow me to upload / link images.
Cheers

I will help with some specs but you are in Australia and we can't supply the materials there.
For the amount of resin, it is simple: add up all the weights of the fiberglass and multiply by 2.
If you need 50Kg of fiberglass, you will use about 100 kg of resin, putty and fillets included.

[quote="Cracker Larry"]Welcome. I'll help with the pictures.
Thank you very much for sorting the pics, obviously i'm doing something fundamentally wrong. I have read the HOWTO on uploading and received an error each time i attempted to upload along the lines of "unable to determine picture size" I'll have another crack!
Again Thanks. Graeme

Thank you for your help on the calculations in regards to resin quantities. Thats a handy rule of thumb calculation. I have done several smaller glassing jobs in the past and feel this major project is within my scope. Having said this i'll need to do a considerable amount of further research in order to finalise my material selection i.e. glass mat density, number of laminations etc.
I trust Epoxy mixed with filler is the preferred bonding agent for transom fitment, stringers and so on. In one of my pictures you can see theres still a fair amount of the previous putty adhered to outer skin of transom. I have removed the bulk of it but whats left is generally less than 5mm in thickness and proving extremely hard to remove. Can i leave it and just bond onto and over or should i persevere and get every last of it off before the refit.
Once again thank you for the quick reply.
Thanks Graeme.

Yes, clean it up, grind all that stuff away and we'll talk about fiberglass.
It's not all about $ here. We'll give you some advice.
