Always nice to have good hidie holes close by and a weather forecast that is good enough that you know to make use of them.

Agreed Tom and Fuzz. :D

Today we motor-sailed and sailed 60 nautical miles south to Great Keppel Island, where we're anchored of the currently derelict resort to get protection from NE winds and swell.

Barra Man told a great story of flying his plane into the resort during its hey day - see page 619 of this thread, well worth a read. :D

The Keppel Island Resort lease recently changed hands. Now held by Australia's richest woman Gina Rinehart (estimated net worth around $14.8 Billion, made from mining - with a good start from a huge inheritance). Big plans for redevelopment!

Thanks Lee. Time will tell. I'm sceptical.

Yesterday we had a wonderful 65 nautical mile sail from Great Keppel Island SE to Pancake Creek, which is nestled below the Bustard Head lighthouse. Lat 24.91.04 S, Lng 151.44.47.

Our course was SE, the wind was a consistent NE 15-20 knots, and the sea swell from the E around 4'.

At times we topped 10 knots, covering the 65 nautical miles in 8 hours. Best sail yet this cruise. :D

We're pushing hard to get southward out of summer tropical cyclone waters and back into our non cyclonic home waters.

But we're in no rush to get back home to Noosa and off Great Sandy before Christmas/New Year.

We peeled off another 60 nautical mile southern passage today in rainy and overcast conditions. Tiring. Snugged up now in the Burnett River, and warming ourselves with a hot curry and a bottle of red. :D

Yesterday we sailed and motor-sailed 60+ nautical miles SE from the Burnett River to the Great Sandy Straits, which runs between World Heritage listed K’gari/Fraser Island and the mainland.

We are now in Great Sandy’s local cruising waters, and we’re looking forward to poking around and gunk-holing around here for the next month or so.

We’re snugged up in Garry’s Anchorage (Lat 25.37.76 S, Lng 152.58.45 E), a favourite of ours when the wind is forecast to go around the clock, as is currently the case.

Tropical rain showers are scudding through the anchorage, and we’re taking things easy as. :D

Hot curry and a bottle of red sounded pretty good to me as my temps are down in the 50's and 30's right now. Glad your back to your home waters, enjoy yourselves over the next month. I may have snow next week.
