I think I spotted the issue: The spark plug is not installed in the correct location, it needs to closer to the top.

That is a very cool little motor. I really like those salvage operation projects, so satisfying to get something like that working again, esp when it has some sentimental value. Best of luck!

Running some of the pieces through the dish washer at the hottest settings. Hoping to get them clean enough to paint, and clean out some nooks and crannies I can't get a wire brush into. Have a list of parts I'll order tomorrow from a great guy out in San Francisco. I am thoroughly enjoying this project!
