XF20 Mod Flats/Flounder rig build

Hello all: Plans purchased

I have been kicking this build around for several years (planning) and I am ready to begin. I would like to detail the complete build so in the event others find it to there desires they have all the information listed. This will be my second Flounder boat build and I am looking forward to all the comments and welcome all recommendations (no don't do that, do it this way and why, I did that and this is what happened) So hopefully I wont see to much of or this BUT ALOT OF THIS

I kicked around this idea in aluminum but after 3 months of endless searches for materials, problems and possible issues I came to my senses and landed back on earth and decided to go with as planned (wood laminate) I admit it I was wrong...

Description:
The boat will be used primarily for Flats fishing and Flounder gigging....

Standard length and width as planned
Minimal sheer
Completely decked (with forward and aft lockers)
Center console (custom with Fuel tank 25 gal) option to raise (for us flats guys)
Bow Rail
Mid Ship Rail
Stern Rail
Stern mounted Air (push motor) 13 HP with 3 blade prop
Light Bar (LED) Raised up and down (submersed) bow mounted (1.5 Aluminum pipe framing)
Optional Rail mounted 50 watt LED (undecided)

Stern mounted Air (push motor) 13 HP with 3 blade prop

An air boat? I always thought the XF20 and GF18 would make good air boats. Don't know about 13hp though I'd put a 65 hp Rotax on her

The air motor in question looks like an auxiliary engine. I have never seen one except in the picture he did send me.

Air Motor assembly:

Engine: 13 HP Honda Knock off http://www.harborfreight.com/13-hp-420c ... 60340.html this engine is a Honda Knock off and all parts will interchange. It is available with a 2 year no hassle return.. Best buy by far for the money (all about supporting the USA but what do you do in todays times) Build Note: Mounted to Air Motor Stand (via wheel bearing assembly)



3 blade composite Prop: HP/13 Reduction:direct drive/ Prop:103/ Diameter:36"/ Pitch:13

Throttle Cable: The reason I choose this style is: 1. It is a dial type and can be set by hand for multiple speeds and 2. For safety reasons slap the red button and it shuts down. Build Note: Mounted Forward on Rail http://www.truckntow.com/venier-h-d-adj ... hgodqxgKpQ




Steering Actuator: I chose this type of steering control for two reason: 1. ease of rigging (to wires from Bow to Stern) push button control. 2. Ease of repair and maintenance (no cables to worry with seizing up, excess space) Build Note: To be attached to Air motor Stand (will explain in detail later

Air Motor Stand: Stand will be constructed with 1.5 - 2" aluminum pipe (I chose pipe because it will be etched primed and painted) Pipe will be bent to form notched cut and welded. Stand will be attached to main deck (stern) with Stainless fasteners and of course good ole 5200... Build note: Will need to add backing plates and plan in framing to support. (minimum forward thrust will be applied as it will only be used for pushing the boat while Gigging) main concern will be while Running on top in a chop (vibration to the deck fasteners)

Air Motor Stand: I am waiting to hear from Mr. Mertens on the final beam and will post foot stance once determined. Stand will be built with 1.5 - 2" aluminum pipe, notch cut and welded. Feet will attach to deck with Stainless hardware and of course 5200 Build Note: Backing plates/framing will need to be planned

Yesterday in another thread I gave a pretty good review on actuators, that being said I would never ever rely on a actuator for steering, I only would use it if in case of failure I could disconnect it in a quick and easy way, and replace it also quick and easy with a simple steering system like a pole extension or something like that.

Very cool project and idea though

Thanks for the comment, It will be used to turn the air motor which will only be used while gigging... Ran one on previous build for four years and it is still going to my knowledge... will look up thread sounds interesting..

No problem glad to comment Do what you think it's best, it's your baby But again if you asked me,.. for steering I rather move around some oil instead of a bunch of (metal) parts.
