FS18

Post by fishgitr »

This is going to be my FS18 build page. So per my fiancé,
We're going to name it "fishgasm". So I began almost a week ago. Progress began slow. I began stitching the side to the bottom only to figure out my measurements were wrong. So I ripped everything apart and cut some more boards. Well here is where I have made it. 8 I now waiting to get my shipment of goodies from Bateau. I made an order with Jeff last night. What great customer service.

Take advantage of this new feature. Quite a few entries under FS-18.

I didn't see anywhere in the plan to fiberglass the soul underneath it or the frames. Am I able to use regular fiberglass cloth just to seal those when the time comes?

You will of course use fiberglass tape to attach the frames and stringers to the bottom and where they cross each other. Larger boats require full fiber glassing of both others just a couple of coats of epoxy. For the sole just coat the bottom with a couple coats of epoxy. Then use a layer of 6oz. cloth on top of the sole.

It is very rare that I specify to fiberglass the under side of the sole.
It will add some stiffness but all the soles I show are well supported by a tight frame work of stringers and floor frames.
I always specify to epoxy coat all sides, all edges of all plywood pieces.

Inside or outside/
I specify nothing there, that is my preference: light boat, very strong, no need to add something but I know that many builders add a layer here and there. :)

i would like to "protect" the outside where the fiberglass ends. Would a light cloth be ok?
