Foam PVC

Post by eps »

I want to build the OB17, but I wanted them to guide me in a question: They have indicated me that a foam PVC exists closed pore to build ships in sandwitch with fiberglass and epoxy.
Could you build in their entirety the OB17 with this material, instead of marine wood, adding the wooden frames once this ply?
If you can build that type fiber gives it should be used for the ply and that thickness should have the ply with epoxy in the interior and external part?
Thank you

We discussed that several times in detail on the old message board: search the archives please.
It is too long to repeat here but in brief: good idea but not for this boat.
PS: my first designs in the 70´s were for foam sandwich but much larger boats.

A little saw dust, a little glue, and a lot of love, and she will float.

In brief: my 1st designs 25 years ago were for foam sandwich. It is great for large boats but does not work for small ones.
