De25 build

Hi Guys,

After a few years of inactivity on boat building i’ve now started the DE25.
It will be a modified version. Just like my 2 previous boats.
I’ve been thinking of it for quite some time now; about how to.

Decided to give it a go and see how it all turns out....

Thanks for the OD16 pictures and have fun with the new boat building adventure.
Where in the Netherlands are you? I am born next door in Belgium and kept one of my boats in Veere, Zeeland.

Hi,
I’m living about 140 kilometers from Veere and 40 kilometers from Belguim. In a little town nearby Breda. In the hart of “De Biesbosch”. Lots of water; rivers, small lakes, creeks etc.

The changes I made to the original plans are:
Raised the sides 7”
Added 3,8 ft in length in order to put the outboard in a covered well. Total lenght now is 28,8 ft.
Changed the bottum from 3/8” into 1/2” thick ocoume ply
Put on a swimplatform.

All the above is already done and it looks good so far.
I will post some pictures later.

I guess a lot of you will tell me that this isn’t gonna work but I think it will. It has to because I allready did it. :D

About the 12mm bottom: did it take the shape easily? I am thinking of the bow mostly, the middle and stern are flat. I would have used 12 mm but it was at the limit of the max. bending radius at the bow.
BTW, since you are Dutch, I suppose you use Bruynzeel?

PS: I remember the Biesbosch area, very nice except .

The 12 mm didn’t shape easy at all.. I pulled the sheets a little bit more together every day.
It took about a week to get them together.
Had to use tyraps 12 mm 1000nm; 100kg. The lighter ones simply broke. At the end it was okay but during bending i was afraid that the plywood would crack.
But because of the added length i wanted a thicker bottom.

Allthough I work at Bruynzeel ( unfortunatily not the plywood division) and i still can get a good discount it was cheaper to use Joubert ocoume marine plywood. good quality as well.

This is looking forward into the enclosed motor well.
On the right ( next to where the motor is coming) is an opening. This opening will lead to a door In the transom. So there will be an easy acces to the swimplatform.
Floor in this area is about the same height as the height of the outboard.

Excuse my pore english: don’t know all the words to explain exactly :?

Hi Pat4!

I'm glad you are back and you arebuilding the DE25.
I built a FS14 and I read your older posts many times.
I live in Romania and it is very difficult to find boat building stuff here. From your posts I found mrboat.eu, which was great, they sent me fiberglass, epoxy, fillers.

Now I'm building the HM19.
I remember you put a larger engine on your FS14, and reinforced the transom. You know anything about that boat, is she still ok? I want to put a larger engine on my HM19 and I reinfoced the transom and the whole motorwell for that.

Sory for the off-topic, great job on the DE25!

Hi bogdanferariu,
“My” fs14 is still on the water.
It’s bought by a few students who live in the Rotterdam area.
They called me a few years ago how to replace the gunwale because it was rotten.
And mr.boat is indeed a good shop. I buy all my stuff there.
Succes on your Hm19 build!

Great video of the flip! I remember the day we flipped mine. It fell too but these hulls are pretty strong plus the cradle holds them well.

Got a lot bigger didn't it?

Here's me having one of my 'WTF have I gotten myself into' moments!

What port size is that? I have 151s? in mine.

Man, I really like this boat. Colors are smoking.

Boat should just stay protected in the garage forever. Under a sheet. Then every month, take the sheet off and snap a pic for me to ooh and ahh over.

Do you have to get certifications to insure her?

It’s fall in the Netherlands. Lots of rain and temperatures around 10c (50F).
But we are still boating!
We spend the last weekends on the boat.
Never done this before and it’s very nice to have a longer boat season then just the time between April and end of September.
Diesel heater is working! Nice and warm.
No foggy windows thanks to the heater

Hee Pat,

Great boat! Cogratulations!
Its is a piy that I'm not living is Zwaluwe any more, otherwise we could have met a bit more easy. But when I am in the neighbouhood I let you know. It would be nice to have both boats together. But when you plan to come to Steenwijk, you'll be invited

Ok I see it now. I'd still love to see more on the outboard cover.

Also what do you think of the sponson/motor pocket modified overall? Do you think it had a big effect of how it runs or its seaworthiness?

I really like the liberties you took with the interior.

I will take some pictures of the outboard cover this weekend. Snow is gone by then and she will be accessible again :D

In my opinion there are no negative expects on seaworthiness or how she runs.
There is no way waves from behind can acces the boat through the motorwell. Bulkhead is about 100cm high and everything is fully closed. The transom door is about 50cm above the waterline and it shuts almost completely watertight.
Problem with the motor cover in the beginning was that there wasn't enough airflow. I couldn't get to max rpm. But that's solved with an extra fan.

grtz,
Patrick
