FS12 Build a much improved vessel from my 1st build
Re: FS12 Build a much improved vessel from my 1st build
The boys took out "Happier Times" on their first fishing expedition this morning. They were able to launch and retrieve her on their own. I fully expected to go home for lunch and help them get the boat out but was pleasantly surprised when Ben called and said she is on the trailer and home. The boys caught a few fish but nothing big enough to keep for dinner. I think she was a successful build!

That is good news! That little boat looks at home on the water.

The boys have been having a great time with the boat. We upgraded the motor to a 2017 Tohatsu 8. It pushes her right at 21 with both boys which is the perfect speed. I was able to sell my 5hp Mercury and only had to come out of pocket a few bucks. With some extra aluminum laying around we fabricated an anchor pole bracket. My welds aren't show room quality but it's not going anywhere. I bought a 3/4" x 10' fiberglass tree stake off Amazon and put a pvc tee on one end. It works great and the boys caught a few small Reds the first time using it. The sad part is I've only gotten to ride in the new boat once so far but I guess that is why we built her.

Just freakin' awesome---this thread certainly has brought back some good memories. As I said in one thread: " Get your kids involved in fishing; that way , they will never have any money to buy drugs!

Looks good! Can you add one to the bow to hold the boat into the wind?
