Sprit rig - laced vs ringed

JM,

On the sprit rig you suggest lacing or rings and using down haul over halyard. I’ve been using lacing which has been working. What would be the advantages to using rings?

Two things I’m seeing with lacing is wearing through of mast finish and difficulty in getting it laced even (which leads to me leaving the sail in the mast in storage). Was thinking that lacing might help with those.
